As
the theme of my work began to evolve I began thinking about the ways in which
we use both photographic and film based mediums in the modern setting. Within
the information age we now use both still and moving images as a kind of proof
of our existence, and most of us do this now via social networking. We each
create endless archives of photos and videos that will carry on long after we
exist. Why do we do this? Is it simply something to leave behind, much like the
cave paintings of our ancestors?
I
decided that I wanted to increase my project by creating three separate films.
I would use the aforementioned film as part one, and this piece would inspire a
further two films that would follow it in sequence. Film two intends to address
our use of photographic/image archiving. In order to present this idea on film
I have decided to use various images (some I will take myself and some will be
sourced online) to create a juxtaposition of these images with a photo roman.
These images will be a collection of on-line stills that people use to document
both their lives and their existence, as well as physical man made proof of
mans existence – such as buildings, graffiti, statues etc. These stills will be
carefully positioned to create a slow moving slideshow of images that will be
presented as a photo roman.
